Discovering the Fascinating Root Shapes of China’s Ha Thu O Tree: A Celebration of Male and Female Forms

It’s fascinating how these two roots, located 10km from each other, were unearthed on the same day in China. In the Liugang area of De’an district, Jiangxi province, Mr. Zhang stumbled upon a tree root with a striking resemblance to a woman. The root was leaning on its chin with a coy expression and had distinct facial features – eyes, nose, and mouth. Standing at 40cm tall and weighing 5.5kg, this root-woman caught everyone’s eye at the construction site where Mr. Zhang was working.

The cluster of roots resembles a cascade of lengthy tresses. Interestingly, on the very same day, in a village called Lam Tuyen, 10km away from here, a shaman unintentionally uprooted a tree with a root that had taken the form of a human being. This root man is strikingly detailed, with fully-formed limbs and even a discernible genitalia. It dwarfs the root woman, standing nearly 60cm tall and weighing a hefty 7.5kg.
