Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia is a stunning natural wonder that spans over 12,000 acres of protected land. Its state park offers visitors an array of activities to enjoy, including hiking trails, rock climbing opportunities, and a campground. However, the main attraction for most day visitors is the park’s primary overlook, which is just a short distance away from the parking area. This lookout point sits atop a massive boulder encircled by safety walls, providing a breathtaking view of the deep Cheat River canyon and its winding path.

Back in 2012, a group of students from WVU came up with an eco-friendly initiative in the nearby park. They constructed several massive structures, but one in particular gained widespread recognition – The Sleeping Giant.
As time has passed, The Sleeping Giant has developed a more distinguished appearance. He now boasts a full beard and sideburns composed of moss that continues to thrive. Additionally, his body is constructed from materials that are designed to naturally decompose over time.
As the enormous structure was being erected, the park introduced two more additions to its collection – a colossal turtle (as shown above) and an amiable bear. These sculptures were crafted from eco-friendly materials and imbued with a substance that made them malleable.
